Later this fall, NIH will post version FORMS-I of our grant application forms and training data table format pages to support the changes coming to NIH application and peer review for due dates on or after January 25, 2025. In the meantime, here are a few resources which provide insight into what’s changing.

Did you know there’s a tool to help you find relevant study sections for your grant application? The Assisted Referral Tool (ART) was developed by the NIH Center for Scientific Review (CSR) to recommend potentially appropriate study sections using text from your application.

You have likely come across the Public Health Service (PHS) assignment request form when putting together your grant application. It’s optional, but we encourage applicants to fill it out.

Grants.gov and NIH are working hard to complete preparations for our transition to FORMS-H application packages. Although we’ll be all set well before our January 25, 2023 due dates, you may see some forms in FORMS-H application packages that still show old expiration dates.

Applicants applying to NIH funding opportunities with due dates on or after January 25, 2023 must use updated application forms and instructions identified with a Competition ID of “FORMS-H.”

Make sure you are using the correct form version for your due date. Remember, the intended due date for your application determines the correct form version to use. If you are applying to a due date on or after January 25, 2022 you MUST use application forms with a FORMS-G Competition ID.

Hopefully, you’ve seen our notices, tweets, and previous Nexus posts regarding our pending transition to an updated set of grant application forms we refer to as FORMS-G. If so, you already know that you must use FORMS-G forms for grant application due dates on or after January 25, 2022 and FORMS-F for due dates on or before January 24, 2022. You might have even started preparing your FORMS-G application. Here are a few updates and tips to help navigate the transition.

These documents are a great visual resource for understanding many of the business rule checks we will run against your submitted application. Of course, you MUST follow the instructions in your funding opportunity announcement and application guide, but these documents are helpful for those times when you just need a quick reference.

Consistent with the Inclusion Across the Lifespan policy, recipients are now required to submit participant-level data on sex/gender, race, ethnicity, and age at enrollment in progress reports. This applies to applications submitted for due dates January 25, 2019 or later.
