In August I let you know about an upcoming collaboration opportunity allowing extramural researchers to use the amazing resources of the NIH Clinical Center and collaborate with intramural researchers here at NIH. Developing ways to support early career researchers has been a key goal at NIH for many years. As I’ve discussed here in the past, we have a commitment to support new investigators as they become independent scientists. But there are multiple ways NIH supports people as they transition through the various stages of their research career.

Last summer I mentioned to you that NIH was interested in figuring out a way to open up many of the NIH Clinical Center’s amazing resources to the extramural research community. It has taken some work to iron out all the details, but we just posted a notice of intent to publish a request for applications (RFA) this fall.

In a November blog post, I mentioned the myriad of activities that are impacting our Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs, one of which was the congressional effort to reauthorize the small business programs.
