Reimagine: to reinterpret (an event, work of art, etc.) imaginatively; rethink
If you have followed my blogs through the years, you know I am a huge fan of an NIH event focused on bringing the extramural research community together with NIH experts to share knowledge, perspectives, guidance, and resources on the NIH grants process and policies. The event has evolved through the years in format, reach, and trans-NIH involvement. Each year, I thought its success would be hard to top…yet somehow it happened. For decades it was known as the “NIH Regional Seminar on Program Funding and Grants Administration.” We capped events at 900 attendees. In 2020, it was hosted online and became the “NIH Virtual Seminar.” Last year, over 15,000 attendees participated, representing every state, and over 100 countries. Yet here we are again…reimagining what it could be…reimagining what it should be.
For the past two years, our virtual seminar has spanned four days and included 50 sessions. That is a lot of information for attendees to digest in a short period of time! This year, we thought participants would appreciate the opportunity to get the content over a longer period, allowing time for the information to digest. In addition, by pulling select topics out of the larger conference and sharing them in monthly preconference events, there is the opportunity to dive deeper into issues and build time for additional Q&A, case studies, and conversation.
To this end, I’d like to introduce you to our new, NIH Grants Conference and PreCon Events… all hosted within our virtual conference center. Visit the Conference Calendar of Events to view the times and descriptions for each:
August 25: NIH Loan Repayment Programs: Supporting the Next Generation of Researchers
September 15: Navigating Early Career Funding Opportunities
October 14: Research Misconduct & Integrity
November 9: Foreign Collaborations: Policies, Processes, & Partnerships
December 6 & 7: Human Subjects: Policies, Clinical Trials, & Inclusion
January 12, 2023 Making the Most of the 2023 NIH Grants Conference
February 1 & 2, 2023: 2023 Virtual NIH Grants Conference: Funding, Policies, & Processes
I am excited about the new opportunities this conference approach will provide everyone involved. Here are additional details about some of this year’s conference features.
- All-Access Conference Pass: There are no fees for signing up. Once you register, your log-in and password provide you access to all of the PreCon Events, 2-Day Conference, On-Demand Library, Exhibit Hall, and additional opportunities to engage with NIH and your peers.
- Virtual Conference Center: The conference and designated preconference events will take place on a single, online platform called vFairs, the same one used for the past two NIH Virtual Seminars. The Exhibit Hall will be available throughout the year for perusing NIH Institute and program booths and collecting valuable information; booths will be staffed for the 2-day conference.
- Build Your Personalized Agenda. Once you register to access our conference center, you can add any of the on-demand videos, PreCon Events, or NIH Grants Conference sessions to your agenda, guaranteeing that you won’t miss out!
- First Event: Thursday, August 25, from 2:00 – 3:30 PM ET – We are pleased to kick off the PreCon Events with experts from the NIH Loan Repayment Program (LRP). This informative and interactive virtual event will provide participants a valuable opportunity to gain program information on how NIH can help pay off a researcher’s student debt, as well as guidance on the LRP application process.
We hope you are as excited as we are about the opportunities the virtual conference center and the planned events offer participants. Register today to get your All-Access Conference Pass. Within a couple of weeks, the conference center will open and be ready for you to explore and plan your NIH Grants Conference experience! #NIHgrantsconf
