October is National Biosafety Month – a yearly reminder to refocus attention on biosafety policies, practices and procedures. In line with this year’s theme of “Evaluation, Collaboration, and Commitment,” the NIH Office of Science Policy (OSP) encourages the research community as a whole to evaluate biosafety programs, form collaborations between faculty and staff to promote biosafety, and commit to providing support for fully resourced and optimized biosafety programs. NIH OSP has also recently updated the “Institutional Biosafety Committee Self-Assessment Tool” as a resource to help the research community evaluate their biosafety programs.
