Streamlining Financial Conflict of Interest Reporting in eRA Commons

Posted

Reporting financial conflicts of interest is extremely important to maintaining public trust in the biomedical research supported by NIH. The latest update to eRA Commons contains many enhancements to the financial conflict of interest (FCOI) reporting module to improve institutional reporting and promote compliance by NIH grantees. Some of these enhancements include:

  • Timely alerts: The FCOI Annual Report link in eRA Commons will appear closer to when the report is due.
  • Email reminders: FCOI signing officials (SOs) will receive an email reminder that an annual report is due.
  • FCOI module-specific roles: An organization’s signing official can now assign individuals with the authority to initiate, edit, view, search, and delete forms in the FCOI reporting module (FCOI_ASST role) or assign individuals the authority of read-only access to their FCOI report (FCOI_View).
  • Error correction and reporting: Corrections to some FCOI report data can be made without NIH taking action to rescind the original report and requiring the grantee to submit a new report.

For details and more information on these changes, please see NIH Guide notice NOT-OD-14-081, the FCOI Online Help (accessed by clicking on the question marks on the screens of the FCOI module) and the FCOI User Guide.
