A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of giving the opening plenary presentation to the over 800 people who came from around the world (48 states and 11 countries) to attend the NIH Regional Seminar on Program Funding and Grants Administration in Baltimore. The presentation included a number of themes that will be familiar to my blog readers, all placed in the context of the big picture of what is going on at NIH right now. I include an introduction to NIH and its leadership; discuss the impact of NIH funded research and the challenges of the current NIH funding situation; highlight opportunities, new initiatives, and policy changes; and even discuss the blog. My staff has made the presentation available on our NIH Grants You Tube Channel. If you are interested in the kinds of issues we discuss on Rock Talk, you might want to check it out.
We are hoping to hold another Regional Seminar in San Diego in mid-October. We will announce it officially in the next couple of weeks once we get the details ironed out. So be on the lookout for a Guide notice, join our Regional Seminar listserv to get a notice directly, or check our Regional Seminar website for information as it becomes available.
