NIH: The View From 10,000 Feet

Posted

Here on the blog we discuss many different aspects of NIH’s research program – policies, funding trends, workforce issues. A few weeks ago, while I was preparing to give the opening talk at the NIH Regional Seminar on Program Funding and Grants Administration, I realized some Rock Talk readers might be interested in learning more about how these topics fit into the big picture of NIH. So, I asked my colleagues to tape this talk, “NIH: The View from 10,000 Feet”, so I could share it with you on the blog. I begin the talk by discussing NIH as a whole – NIH’s history, leadership, and who we are today as an organization – before delving into topics that we discuss on the blog and that will be familiar to regular Rock Talk readers. I hope you find this interesting. I truly enjoy holding these Regional Seminars and participating in them as well. Each seminar is a great opportunity to spend a couple of days talking with over 800 investigators and administrators about a wide range of topics related to finding, applying for, and managing NIH grant funding. We’ll be posting more information about the 2015 Regional Seminar in the fall, so join our Regional Seminar listserv or keep reading the Extramural Nexus and Rock Talk blog for updates!
