A resubmission or renewal application should normally have the same title as the previous application or grant. But, if the specific aims of the project have significantly changed, choose a new title that accurately describes the project.
If you do change the title:
- Check the box for a renewal or resubmission and enter the grant number for the Federal ID on the cover component, and
- Note the title change in the cover letter.
Also, a renewal would require progress report in which you need to elaborate on the achievements of the previous funding period. My personal experience is that the PI needs to mention clearly that it is a renewal/ resubmission with a new title. If the reviewers miss that, it may end up with unplesant consequences.
