The NIH Center for Scientific Review and National Institute of Mental Health will no longer offer a special deadline for new investigator resubmission applications. This change goes into effect starting with R01 applications submitted for due dates on or after January 25, 2019.

NIH has issued initial guidance on the implementation of the Revised Common Rule NOT-OD-19-050. The effective date for the amended regulation is January 21, 2019. It applies to studies initiated on or after this date, and ongoing studies that voluntarily transitioned to the Revised Common Rule, including those that implemented the three burden-reducing provisions during the delay period (July 19, 2018 through January 20, 2019).

NIH takes the issue of sexual harassment and discrimination very seriously. As such, beginning with applications submitted for due dates on or after January 25, 2019, institutional training grant applications (T15, T32, T34, T35, T36, T37, T90/R90, TL1, TL4) must include a letter that describes the institutional commitment to ensuring that proper policies, procedures, and oversight are in place to prevent discriminatory harassment and other discriminatory practices.
