Time to Get On Board! xTrain Required January 2011

Beginning January 1, 2011, xTrain, NIH’s electronic appointment system, will be required for nearly all NIH institutional research training grants, fellowships, education and career development awards. By using xTrain, program directors and administrators for these grants can now forgo paper appointment forms and appoint students and postdoctorates to training grants and scholars to career development awards electronically.

Support for Research Training

President Obama’s proposed budget for the NIH for fiscal year 2011 includes a six percent increase in stipends for trainees and fellows supported by the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award. If approved, this would be the largest single-year increase since 2003.

New Staff in OER's Policy Office

OER is pleased to welcome two new staff members. Within the Office of Policy for Extramural Research Administration, Emily Linde has joined the Division of Grants Policy, and Sahar Rais has joined the Division of Grants Compliance and Oversight.
