We’re preparing a training grant application but don’t have all the historical data requested in the new data tables…. What should we do?

“We’re preparing a training grant application but don’t have all the historical data requested in the new data tables, such as the length of prior, full-time research experience for trainees entering the program five years ago. What should we do?”

Because reviewers are asked to assess a training program and its record based, in part, on data presented in the tables, applicants should provide as much data as reasonably possible. Where complete historical data are not available, applicants should indicate that in their applications and begin collecting the relevant information, so that it will be available in the future.

  1. Need clarification for Table 5B for a renewal T32. The rationale for this table is a indicator of each faculty members ability to forster trainee -yet, it appears from the instructions, we only list past and current training for the past 10 years – that are appointed to THIS training grant. Correct?

It gets very confusing because the instructions also states to list all publications of postdoctorates resulting from their period of training in the faculty member’s laboratory or in association with the current training program.

    • Renewal/revision applications. For each participating faculty member in a renewal/revision application, list the publications of trainees appointed to the training grant, including all current trainees and those appointed to the grant for up to the past 10 years, with the exception of those appointed to short-term training positions.

    5. Publication (Authors, Year, Title, Journal, Volume, Inclusive Pages). List publications in chronological order followed by abstract-only publications. List all publications of postdoctorates resulting from their period of training in the faculty member’s laboratory or in association with the current training program. Do not list publications resulting from work done prior to joining the training program or arising from research initiated after the completion of the program. List abstract-only publications only if a more complete publication has not appeared and label these clearly as abstracts. Boldface the postdoctorate’s name in the author list.

    1. That’s correct, users should list only current and past trainees, i.e., in this case, postdoctorates who were appointed to the training grant. To clarify, for the postdoctorates identified on the table, users should list all publications resulting from their period of training in the faculty member’s laboratory or in association with the current training program.
