ASSIST for Application Submission Grows in Popularity

Posted

We’ve already processed nearly 8,000 grant applications prepared and submitted using NIH’s web-based ASSIST and more and more of you are opting to use it all the time. ASSIST offers many benefits over Grants.gov’s downloadable Adobe forms, including the ability to validate your application against many NIH business rules and to preview your application in the NIH format prior to submission.

Although originally targeted to multi-project grant applications, we expanded ASSIST support to all our competing grant programs in 2015 (NOT-OD-16-042).

ASSIST is now an option for:

  • all single and multi-project, competing grant applications;
  • single-project administrative supplements;
  • single-project, post-award successor-in-interest (type 6) requests; and
  • single-project, post-award change of institution (type 7) requests.

ASSIST use is not required. It’s a great option, but may not be the right option for everyone. You should check with your sponsored programs office to make sure there are no objections (especially if your institution has implemented your own submission service), before joining the growing number of applicants that have given ASSIST a try.
