Sponsors Must Approve Fellowship Termination Notices in xTrain

Posted

Did you know sponsors of Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA individual fellows must participate in the termination process of the fellowship once the fellowship is completed?

For federal or foreign fellowships, the fellow or the sponsor can submit the termination notice directly to NIH.

But, for fellowships completed at a non-federal U.S. organization, the sponsor must review and approve the termination notice in xTrain then route it to the business official for submission to NIH.

In order to perform these duties within xTrain, the sponsor needs to be assigned the eRA Commons “sponsor” role. A signing official, account administrator, or administrative official at the sponsor’s institution can add this role to the sponsor’s existing Commons account or create a new account for the sponsor if he or she is not already registered in eRA Commons.

If you have questions about the sponsor’s role or the termination of fellowships using xTrain, please view our xTrain FAQs and the xTrain Termination of Fellowships Quick Reference Guide for Institution Users. Questions concerning the use of eRA Commons and xTrain can be directed to the eRA Help Desk. General information on xTrain, including training materials, can be found on the eRA website.
