The vast majority of NIH grants are funded incrementally (i.e., one award for each year of the project period). For the small number of multi-year funded awards, funding for the entire project period (more than one year) is provided up front (i.e., the project and budget period are the same). Until this month, the NIH has not had the ability to standardize the submission of progress reports for multi-year funded awards. Now progress reports for multi-year funded awards can be submitted electronically through eRA Commons. Electronic submission should be used for progress reports due on or after December 22, 2010. Two months before a progress report is due, investigators will automatically receive an e-Notification noting the due date.
