Be on the Lookout for Shorter, Simpler Funding Opportunity Announcements

Posted

Changes have come to newly released NIH funding opportunity announcements (FOAs). A simplified format will make it easier to find the information you need to apply. Rather than repeating information found elsewhere, the new announcements direct you to the most up-to-date source information, such as the SF 424 (R&R) Application Guide and the NIH Grants Policy Statement. This change shortens the announcements, making them easier to navigate, and it has the added benefit of allowing FOAs to remain accurate and up-to-date as instructions and policies change over time.

As always, the FOA should be your go-to source for specific scientific and programmatic information about a particular funding opportunity, and the FOA always takes precedence over the application guide. For an example of the new format, see RFA-DK-10-011.
