NIH has decided to eliminate the error correction window from the electronic grant application submission process. This change takes effect for submission deadlines on January 25, 2011 and beyond (see NOT-OD-10-123).
Applicants will no longer have time after the deadline to address NIH system-identified errors/warnings in their applications. However, applicants still will have the two-business-day application viewing window to view their assembled application image before the deadline. The viewing window is an applicant’s one chance to view his or her grant application just as the NIH reviewers will see it.
NIH encourages applicants to submit early in order to view their application (and correct any errors/warnings) prior to the deadline. Applications submitted after the deadline, or applications with errors and/or warnings corrected after the deadline, will be subject to the NIH late policy and may not be reviewed.
NIH is committed to assisting applicants through this transition. The Applying Electronically website provides resources to assist the community through the application process. A recent eRA “Items of Interest” e-mail highlight recommended “checks” to make before submitting your application. Applicants are encouraged to sign up for eRA Commons e-mail updates if they do not receive them already.
