Animal Welfare Workshops

IACUC 101 and 201 PLUS Workshops will be held on August 18 and 19, 2010 in San Francisco, California. The California Biomedical Research Association (CBRA) will host the programs with support from the NIH Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Animal Care, and the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC).

Program descriptions:

IACUC 101 – “The Basics” – is a full day didactic and interactive educational program for new and seasoned IACUC members, IACUC affiliates, and individuals responsible for their institution’s animal care program. The course provides a basic yet comprehensive overview of the laws, regulations, and policies that govern the humane care and use of research animals.

IACUC 201 PLUS – “The Process PLUS Select Topics” – is a highly interactive program that takes the fundamentals of IACUC 101 and applies them to the process and mechanisms of ensuring compliance. The morning and afternoon sessions are divided into 3 tracks based on an individual’s IACUC role, responsibility, and interests. Track topics are customized to include subjects of timely interest. The program concludes with open questions and answers to representatives of OLAW, USDA and AAALAC.
