New ARRA Funding Opportunities

Several new ARRA Funding Opportunity announcements (FOAs) are in progress in a variety of areas. The Office of the Director will be making awards under the “Recovery Act Limited Competition: NIH Director’s Opportunity for Research in Five Thematic Areas” (RC4) to support research directly related to Dr. Collins’ five themes for NIH, which were outlined during an August town hall meeting. NIDDK has announced its opportunity for research on biosamples from selected diabetes clinical studies (RC4) to support diabetes research. Finally, the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research’s Opportunity Network has published two FOAs: competitive revision for the NIH basic behavioral and social science opportunity network (R01, R03, R15, R21, R21/R33, and R37), which will expand the scope of the original award to strengthen basic behavioral and social science research, as well as accelerate the science; and short-term mentored career development awards in the basic behavioral and social sciences for mid-career and Senior Investigators (K18) that will support development of research capability in basic behavioral and social science research.
