Ensuring Successful Submission of Newly Restructured Applications

Posted

Get ready – as previously announced, the transition to new application forms and instructions, including shorter page limits, is fast approaching. As we get closer to the January 25, 2010 transition date, we want to make sure that you are aware of the upcoming application changes and alert you to new resources that have been developed to help ensure your successful submission.

Important Tips:

  1. Return to the updated Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) or reissued parent announcement and read the new language carefully.
    • Reissued FOAs with new Enhancing Peer Review language and links to the new, restructured application forms are available on a rolling timeline.
    • The parent R01 announcement (PA-10-067) was reissued on December 17, 2009.
  2. Carefully read and follow the new application instructions .
  3. Be sure to choose the correct forms for submissions intended for due dates on or after January 25, 2010*:
Until January 25, 2010 On and after January 25, 2010
    Electronic SF 424 (R&R) ADOBE-FORMS-A ADOBE-FORMS-B
Paper PHS 398 Revision date “11/2007” Revision date “06/2009”

Remember, submission to Grants.gov is only the first step. Upon successful submission to Grants.gov, you MUST check your application for errors and/or warnings in the eRA Commons. Any eRA-identified issues must be promptly addressed in order for your application to be considered for review. Applicants who inadvertently use the wrong forms, or otherwise fail to incorporate the new changes, will have a brief window during which they may be able to correct their application, provided that they follow specific instructions, which can be found on NIH’s eSubmission Web site, along with a more complete list of related eSubmission FAQs .
