Dr. Milton Hernandez Joins OER as the Director of the Division of Loan Repayment

Dr. Hernandez has been with NIH for over 20 years and comes to the Division of Loan Repayment from the Office of Special Population and Research Training at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). At NIAID, he planned, developed and implemented programs and projects related to the training and development of researchers. Dr. Hernandez plans to promote efforts in these areas using the Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs). The LRPs repay educational loan debt for individuals who commit to conducting qualifying biomedical research. A liaison to the Loan Repayment Program since 2001, Dr. Hernandez has served as chair of the LRP Policy Advisory Committee since 2007. He has a bachelor’s degree in biology from St. Edward’s University and master’s and doctorate degrees in zoology from Texas A&M University. Before joining NIH, Dr. Hernandez was a professor of physiology at Howard University College of Medicine and the Pennsylvania State University Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
