It’s Not Just Good Looks: New eRA Informational Resources

Posted

NIH’s electronic Research Administration (eRA) team has been hard at work to make the process of finding information and learning about the electronic grants  process easier and more intuitive. Check out these three new resources:

A New Public Website

On November 21, eRA launched a newly designed public website. Adopting the mantra of ‘less is more,’  heavy text-based pages to were reorganized and rewritten to include simple flowchart graphics and more manageable chunks of information, reducing some of the “information overload” of the old pages. Whether you are an applicant, grantee, or reviewer, we’ve created flowcharts to help you see the “big picture” of grant application processing and award management, then easily narrow your focus down to a single part of the process (say, having a referee submit a reference letter). Check out the new site at era.nih.gov (or hop on over from grants.nih.gov using the “eRA” tab.)

Easy Access to Help While Using eRA Systems

We have integrated our new online help system throughout Commons pages by providing links to step-by-step instructions for various processes and topics.  For example, when you are working through the eRA Commons Personal Profile, you will see small question mark icons on the screens. Clicking the icon next to a topic — for example, the Demographics section – takes you to the corresponding online help information for that topic. From here you will be able to explore the entire help system, see relevant policy statements, access related help topics, or search for other information.

Expanded Resources

And as if the new design and integrated online help wasn’t enough, we have also included direct links to various multimedia resources, such as PowerPoint presentations and webinar recordings. As we work hard to anticipate and meet your needs, we have begun producing exciting and informative tutorial videos. You can see the full playlist on our eRA Video Tutorials page. They are also accessible through YouTube on the NIH Grants, Electronic Research Administration channel.
