I received a request for Just-in-Time (JIT) information. Does this mean my application will be funded?

The availability of the Just-In-Time (JIT) link in the eRA Commons or the receipt of an email JIT request should NOT be interpreted as an indicator of award. JIT request e-mails are sent automatically to principal investigators with grant applications receiving an impact score of 40 or less, regardless of the payline of the particular NIH institute that received your grant application. (NIH institutes and centers have varying pay lines and funding strategies that determine which grants will be funded.)

Timely submission of the requested information will enable NIH staff to expedite an award should an application be identified for funding. NIH institute staff will contact you if they have not received the requested JIT information or if additional information is required. If you have additional questions, we encourage you contact the grants management specialist or program officer assigned to your application.

Additional information about JIT can be found in NIH Guide Notice NOT-OD-12-101 or on the eRA Commons website (Just-in-Time). The NIAID website also provides useful informaiton on Preparing your JIT.

  1. JIT link in the eRA Commons are available on grant applications, which have overall criterion score of less than 4 but no Impact Score and were Not Discussed. Also, on such applications, an email, which it states serves as Notice of Intent that a decision to fund application…” and the funding has been deferred, is also sent out by eRA Commons. Both actions are very confusing to the grant applicants. If an application receives no impact score and was not discussed no matter the overall criterion score, it seems, JIT link or such email should not be possible since such application will absolutely not be funded from not having been discussed nor having received an impact score.
