I Submitted My Application to Grants.gov. Why Can't I See the Application Status in the eRA Commons?

If you cannot see the status of your application in the eRA Commons, it may be due to one of these two reasons:

  1. Missing or invalid PD/PI eRA Commons User IDApplicants can easily overlook the “Credential, e.g., agency login” field in the “Profile – Project Director/Principal Investigator” section of the R&R Senior/Key Person Profile (Expanded) form. This field is not marked required on the federal-wide form (since it is not required by all agencies using the form) but it is required by NIH.Check this field on the application to ensure a valid PD/PI eRA Commons user ID was included and entered in all capital letters. It is important to include the PD/PI’s user ID and not the Signing Official’s user ID in this field. If corrections are needed, you will need to make them to the local copy of your application and and submit a corrected application application through Grants.gov.
  2. NIH has not yet processed the application. When NIH retrieves an application from Grants.gov, the organization’s Authorized Organization Representative (AOR) will receive an e-mail notification from Grants.gov. If the AOR has not received this e-mail, the AOR should work with Grants.gov to check the status of the application. Application status at Grants.gov can also be checked through the “Track My Application” page. Once Grants.gov processes the application, NIH will retrieve it and validate it against NIH business rules. Applicants should continue to periodically check the eRA Commons for the status of their application. Experience problems submitting that threaten your ability to complete the application process by the due date? Be sure to seek help and document your issue.

Note: It is the applicant’s responsibility to track their application through Grants.gov to the eRA Commons. If you cannot view your application in the Commons, NIH cannot review it!
