Human Embryonic Stem Cell Lines Approved For Use Under New Guidelines

Posted

NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins approved the first 13 human embryonic stem cell (hESC) lines under the new NIH Guidelines for Human Stem Cell Research that were adopted in July 2009. The guidelines implement President Obama’s Executive Order 13505: Removing Barriers to Responsible Scientific Research Involving Human Stem Cells, and establish policy and procedures under which the NIH will fund such research. The 13 hESC lines now appear on the NIH hESC Registry. A summary table of lines that are on the Registry, those that have been submitted to the Registry and are pending NIH review, and those where owners of lines have indicated their intention to submit is available on the Summary of Requests page.

Please see NIH Guide Notice NOT-OD-10-020 for information on how NIH applications and awards involving the use of hESCs will be addressed.
