New Funding Opportunities through the Recovery Act

Posted

NIH is pleased to announce two new Recovery Act funded programs seek to recognize and encourage innovative research and technology among small businesses and for-profit ventures–the Small Business Catalyst Awards for Accelerating Innovative Research (R43) and the Biomedical Research, Development, and Growth to Spur the Acceleration of New Technologies (BRDG-SPAN) Pilot Program (RC3).

The first of these–the Small Business Catalyst Awards for Accelerating Innovative Research (R43)–will support biomedical and behavioral research conducted by small businesses which accelerate innovation through high risk, high reward research or research and development (R&D) that has commercial potential. Small businesses without a history of NIH support are encouraged to apply and lend their mathematical, computational, physical, behavioral, or social science backgrounds toward the mission of NIH.

The latter opportunity–the BRDG-SPAN Pilot Program–offers critical funding to projects working to turn later stage research and development activities into therapies and technologies that will directly benefit public health. This funding will help grantees commercialize their research products by enabling them to carry out later stage R&D activities.
